Have you been hearing a chirping sound from your phone while using the Facebook app lately?
According to Dataconomy, the sound that occurs when scrolling is part of a new update to make the mobile experience more engaging and interactive.
No, the chirping is not coming from your head.
A new sound has been reported by Facebook users while scrolling on their mobile phones.
According to META spokesperson Andy Stone, the noise is a temporary bug that is not a new feature.
“Hearing a chirping noise while scrolling through your Facebook Feed on your iPhone? It’s not you, it’s us! And it’s an unfortunate technical error that we’re in the process of fixing,” Stone wrote on Threads and X (formerly Twitter).
If you want the bird sound to vanish immediately, there’s a straightforward option.
How to stop Facebook from chirping when you scroll
Anyone can disable the chirping sound effect in settings on the mobile app. Here are step-by-step instructions:
- Open the Menu by clicking the bottom right button of the Facebook app.
- Under Settings and Privacy, click the Settings button.
- Click the Media button under Preferences.
- Under Sounds, toggle the In-App Sound to off.
Turning off the ‘In-App Sound’ feature will end the chirping and noises that users hear when pressing the Like, Comment, and Share buttons. There’s no need to worry, users will still be capable of hearing audio from videos.
