We’re thrilled to announce the majority of the 2024/25 FIS Freeski and Snowboard Park & Pipe calendar, which kicks off in early September in New Zealand’s Cardrona Alpine Resort. This season-opener marks a significant return to the resort for FIS Park & Pipe and Snowsports NZ, with the first World Cup competitions since the start of the 2019/20 season.
Cardrona will host World Cup events as part of Winter Games NZ, the largest snow sports event in the southern hemisphere. The resort has a rich history of hosting World Cup competitions, dating back to 2007 when snowboard halfpipe made its debut on Cardrona’s Parks U-tube. Freeski events began at the resort in 2012.
The list of legendary athletes who have claimed podium spots in Cardrona is impressive, including snowboarders like Shaun White, Kelly Clark, and Iouri Podladtchikov, and freeski athletes like Torin Yater-Wallace, Devin Logan, and Cassie Sharpe.
This year’s Cardrona World Cups will feature snowboard slopestyle from September 1-3, followed by freeski halfpipe from September 6-7. The event will also be followed by two Australia-New Zealand Cup competitions, featuring snowboard halfpipe and freeski slopestyle.
But what makes this season particularly exciting is that the Cardrona World Cups will mark the start of the qualification period for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. From now until the end of January 2026, every competition will take on added significance as the world’s elite Park & Pipe athletes battle for coveted spots at the Olympic Games.
FIS Snowboard Park & Pipe World Cup Calendar 2024/25
The 2024-2025 FIS Snowboard World Cup season is shaping up to be an exciting one, with a total of five slopestyle competitions, five big air competitions, and five halfpipe competitions. The season kicks off at Cardrona from September 1-3, with a slopestyle competition.
Following the event in Cardrona, there will be a brief five-week hiatus before the action resumes at the Big Air Chur festival in Switzerland from October 18-19. This highly anticipated event promises to be a thrilling weekend of snowboarding, music, and parties, rivalled only by the X Games and World Championships.
In November, the tour heads to China, where snowboarders will compete in big air and halfpipe events at the 2020 Olympic Winter Games venues in Beijing and Secret Garden. The Copper Mountain halfpipe showdown in Colorado will take place just before the holiday season.
After a brief break, the season resumes in January with two back-to-back big air competitions in Austria, starting at Klagenfurt from January 3-5. This marks the first of several major events on the calendar for the new year.
The snowboard season is heating up! After Klagenfurt, we’ll head to Kreischberg, the site of the 2015 World Championships, for a big air competition from January 9-11. This could be the final event of the big air season, depending on the plans for a US stop in late January.
Before we head across the Atlantic, we’ll be in Laax, Switzerland for the Laax Open from January 14-18. This event will feature both slopestyle and halfpipe competitions at one of Europe’s top freestyle resorts.
Next, we’ll be making our way to the US for a big week of snowboarding action, including halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air competitions. As soon as we have confirmation on the details, we’ll be sure to share them with you.
After that, we’ll take a short break before returning to action in Calgary, Canada for the slopestyle competition and the season finale of the halfpipe series from February 19-22. This event is one of the longest-running on the Park & Pipe World Cup circuit.
If all goes as planned, we’ll then head to Italy for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic test event at Mottolino Fun Mountain in Livigno from March 12-14. The status of this event is still TBC.
Finally, the season will come to a close with the St Moritz-Engadin 2025 FIS Freestyle, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in Switzerland. This 11-day event will take place from March 19-29 and will feature medal competition in various disciplines.
FIS Freeski World Cup calendar 2024/25
The Freeski calendar for the 2024/25 season is largely aligned with the snowboard calendar, with some notable differences. The season will kick off with five halfpipe, five slopestyle, and six big air World Cup competitions.
The first competition will be halfpipe skiing in Cardrona, New Zealand, from September 6-7. Then, the Freeski and Snowboard disciplines will overlap at the Big Air Chur event. After that, the first standalone Freeski competition will take place at the Stubai World Cup on November 22-23.
At the Beijing, Secret Garden, Copper Mountain, Klagenfurt, and Kreischberg competitions, the Freeski programme will mirror the Snowboard programme. However, at the Laax event, only slopestyle competition will be featured for freeskiers.
The to-be-confirmed US stop will also feature the same slate of competitions for both Freeski and Snowboard. The season will then conclude with a halfpipe finale in Calgary from February 14-15. Following that, Freeski will take center stage in Tignes, where the slopestyle and big air seasons will wrap up in the French Alps.
It’s worth noting that this season marks a change from the past decade, as the slopestyle World Cup season will not conclude in Silvaplana. Instead, the St. Moritz-Engadine 2025 World Championships will serve as the season finale for FIS Freeski.
