An Uber customer in Noida was shocked to receive a bill worth crores after a seemingly routine auto ride. Deepak Tenguriya booked an Uber India car ride on Friday morning, expecting a fare of just ₹62.
However, after Mr. Deepak reached his location, he received a hefty bill of ₹7.66 crore on his app, even without the driver ending the ride.
The incident came to light after Mr. Deepak’s friend Ashish Mishra shared a clip of X (formerly Twitter). In the video, the two can be heard discussing the huge bill that Mr. Deepak has received.
The now-viral clip opens to show Mr Deepak repeating the amount mentioned in the Uber bill. When Mr. Ashish asked him, ‘How much is your bill worth, please show?’, Mr. Deepak replied, ‘₹7,66,83,762.’
When Ashish asked him to show the amount, Deepak flashed the phone screen, ‘ ₹7,66,83,762.’
Additionally, Deepak was charged ₹5,99,09189 for waiting time, with a promotional discount of ₹75 taken off. Deepak denied any GST charges in the bill when a voice behind the camera asked about them. “Even if you had booked Chandrayaan, then that ride also wouldn’t have cost you this much,” the duo were heard joking.
Reacting to the clip, Uber wrote, “Hey, sorry to hear about the trouble. Please allow us some time while we are looking into this issue for you. We will get back to you with an update.”
Meanwhile, last year in November, an Uber driver from North Carolina, United States, earned over $28,000 (Rs 23.3 lakhs) just by cancelling over 30 per cent of his trips in a year.
