A low-intensity explosion rocked the Prashant Vihar area in Rohini, Delhi, on Thursday morning. The blast occurred in a scooter parked outside a sweet shop, and police reported finding a white powder-like substance at the scene.
Incident Details
Authorities received a call about the explosion at 11:48 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of the district’s bomb disposal team. The blast resulted in minor injuries to a driver of a three-wheeler parked nearby, who was treated and later discharged from the hospital.
Delhi Police spokesperson, Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, stated, “One person sustained minor injuries. Police teams and specialized staff, including the special cell, forensics, and other units, are at the spot. The cause of the explosion is being ascertained. As of now, there is no suspect.”
Emergency Response
The Delhi Fire Services quickly dispatched four fire tenders to the location following the explosion. The area has been cordoned off as police and fire officials investigate the incident. Senior police personnel, including additional commissioner of police Rajeev Ranjan, were on-site overseeing operations.
Visuals from the scene revealed plumes of white smoke emerging from the vicinity of the shop. A National Security Guard (NSG) team arrived to assist in the investigation, examining the area with sniffer dogs. Forensic investigators from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also joined the efforts to determine the cause of the blast.
Previous Incident and Public Safety
Police sources indicate that the Thursday explosion bears similarities to a previous blast that occurred on October 20, which took place outside a CRPF school’s boundary wall in Prashant Vihar. However, the current incident is deemed a low-intensity blast, and authorities have not yet established a link between the two events.
Last month’s explosion was attributed to a crude bomb and caused damage to the school wall, as well as shattering windows of nearby shops and vehicles. Fortunately, it resulted in no injuries at that time.
Ongoing Investigation
As the investigation continues, police are verifying calls received regarding the incident. Shops in the area have been instructed to temporarily close, and thorough investigations are in progress to understand the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
