Joining other leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated his “friend” Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 US presidential election on Wednesday. The 47th president of the United States will be Donald Trump.
In order to further solidify the India-US partnership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his excitement about reaffirming their cooperation. In the midst of the Russia-Ukraine war and Middle East problems, the Indian prime minister also asked Donald Trump to advance “global peace, stability, and prosperity.”
“My friend @realDonaldTrump, congrats on your historic election victory. I’m excited to work with you again to further develop the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership as you build on the achievements of your previous term. PM Narendra Modi wrote on X, “Let’s work together to improve our people’s lives and to advance world peace, stability, and prosperity.”
Donald Trump and Narendra Modi have a relationship characterized by strong diplomatic ties, strategic cooperation, and evident personal camaraderie. Large gatherings like as “Howdy, Modi!” in Houston in 2019 and “Namaste Trump” in Ahmedabad in 2020, when they spoke to sizable crowds, demonstrated their friendship and mutual respect.
In terms of strategy, Donald Trump and Narendra Modi had a strong defense and security stance. Both leaders took a strong stand against terrorism, which improved relations, particularly with regard to threats originating in Pakistan.
Along with working together to combat China’s dominance in the area, they also have a common vision for a “free and open Indo-Pacific.” Deeper defense relations, combined military drills, and India’s pivotal participation in the Quad alliance with the US, Japan, and Australia resulted from this.
Trade, though, was a subject of contention. Tariff issues resulted from Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda, in which the US imposed tariffs on Indian exports and India retaliated. In spite of this, both countries sought more equitable commerce.
Their connection also included health cooperation during the Covid-19 outbreak, with America later aiding India’s response and India providing the US with hydroxychloroquine.
